Your Support Matters
Meet Scholarship Recipient and "Lancer 4 Life," David Moore
My name is David Moore and I am a first-generation student who accessed post-secondary education at 40 years of age through attendance at Pasadena City College.
Growing up in a marginalized community in Los Angeles, I was a product of early gang involvement, bad decision-making, addiction, and subsequent incarcerations which consumed a large portion of my life. That changed during my time at PCC. Being a scholar with the CORE program, Communities Overcoming Recidivism through Education, I was given access to the support and guidance that nurtured my academic capabilities, having graduated with two AA degrees, a 4.0 GPA, and a Summa Cum Laude recognition which led to my being the commencement speaker at 2023 graduation.
I was accepted to every college I applied to, and was left with the unique challenge of picking what prestigious university I would attend. The University of Southern California (USC) is where I transferred to and am entering my senior year in undergraduate studies. I am a highly qualified applicant for the Master's and PhD programs at USC which I will be applying to next Spring.
As a Pasadena City College alumnus, the Lancers for Life community allows me to not only give back, but also continue to receive the support that makes access to higher education institutions possible.
